What would be your ideal car-free day in LA? Submit a fun and creative itinerary for a day in Los Angeles without a car. The top-voted submission will receive $500 from LA/2B and GOOD to implement their idea.
The Specifics
Get some sun. See a neighborhood. Ride on some quiet streets. Clean up the beach. Try some new food. Volunteer at a soup kitchen. This is a great place to get out and do things. Be it by bike, foot, bus or even horse. It’s sunny. It’s warm. It’s friendly. It’s LA. If you had a day to get out and do some great things, what would you do, who would you roll with and where would you go? The only catch is that you can’t use a car. That may sound tough, but give it a try and you’d be surprised how easy it is to get around this great city of ours.
When you are thinking about what kind of itinerary to submit, be creative. Include a photo or a video. Make a map. Have fun. Ideas that promote good causes are always cool. Let us know how you and your friends would use $500 to bring your itinerary to life.
The LA/2B itinerary challenge is open for submissions from April 15th to May 15th. From May 15th – May 31st we’ll open it up to a public vote. Get your friends involved behind your effort and join the LA/2B and GOOD community in deciding which itinerary is most deserving of the award.

Submission tips:
- Be Creative; include a link to a photo slideshow or upload a video that represents your idea. Make it fun and engaging.
- Get your friends involved, design your trip with a group in mind! How many people can you get out to enjoy LA without a car?
- Do some GOOD, include something that is beneficial for the Los Angeles community.
- Include a link to a map; we want others to enjoy your day, so share a map with us of your proposed journey – whether its hand-drawn, PhotoShopped or an elaborate doodle – we want you to get creative with it!
LA/2B is a project of the Los Angeles Departments of City Planning and Transportation to envision a new way of moving around the city, using its streets for mobility and beyond. Rules & Regulations
- This Challenge is open for submissions from April 15 noon PT to May 15 noon PT.
- Projects will be featured on this page and public voting will be open from May 15 noon PT to May 31 noon PT.
- The submission with the most votes will receive $500 to implement their itinerary.
- At least one portion of the itinerary must take place in the City of LA.
- Read all the rules.

Well it seems to me that Ms. Jennix read too much into the question. For and individual that comes across as pro public transportation, she is the first to refute any kind of positive reinforcement to the use of our public transit system. Go Figure! Instead of suggesting positive ideas to the contest the first thing that comes to her response is, “Unbelievably stupid”. Well Ms. Jennix if you would like to get Angelinos to use our public transit system maybe is best that you share your story of typical day of an Angelino that uses the system. Stories that will encourage Angelinos to utilize our public transit system and that will eventually change the mind set that the automobile is not needed in our beautiful city. Positive feed back is always a better approach in making a change in behavior pattern.

I think it's a great competition. So many wonderful ideas and itineraries. I need to try all of them this summer :0) If people already do great car-free adventures in Los Angeles, props to them, but I think it's hard for the average Angeleno to go daily without a car. Thanks Good/LA2b for challenging us!

This is unbelievably stupid. Thousands of us car-owning Los Angelenos go car-free everyday. While i appreciate that you're trying to get people to thing of doing something different, to couch it in the context of being something so unusual it requires any planning at all misses the point: YOUR DEPENDENCE ON YOUR AUTOMOBILE IS AN ILLUSION.

That may be true, Jennix, but most people are caught in their illusions. I think this contest is great if it jars even a few people to realize that auto-dependence is an illusion.
